Responsible Gaming

This page sets out practical ways to keep gambling under control and states plainly what this site can and cannot do about it. The links on this page go to independent organisations; everything else described here reflects only what this build actually does.

Decide the amount before you start

Working out a figure before opening any operator site makes the decision calmly, rather than under the pressure of a session that's already in motion. Treat that amount as spent the moment you commit it, in the same way you would treat the price of a ticket or a meal out. Thinking of it that way removes the temptation to see a loss as money still owed to you, which is what drives people to keep going in the hope of getting it back.

Never chase a loss

Chasing means raising the amount you're willing to risk because of what has already gone, not because of any new judgement about the game. The reasoning that led to your original figure hasn't changed just because the outcome so far has been bad, so the original figure is still the right one to stick to. Stepping away after a loss, even briefly, gives you room to notice whether you're deciding with a clear head or simply reacting.

Keep borrowed money out of it

Money that has to be repaid carries a deadline and a consequence that has nothing to do with the outcome of any bet. Gambling with it adds a second layer of pressure on top of the game itself, which makes it much harder to stop at the point you'd otherwise choose. Using only money you were free to spend anyway keeps the decision to stop entirely in your own hands.

Take breaks and bring someone else in early

A short break away from the screen is often enough to tell whether you're still enjoying yourself or just continuing out of habit. If gambling stops feeling like entertainment and starts feeling like something you can't easily set aside, it helps to say so to someone else before the pattern becomes harder to see clearly from the inside. Raising it early, with a friend, a family member, or one of the organisations linked from this page, tends to be far easier than raising it later.

Find independent help from this page

Every page of this site, including this one, carries links to three independent gambling-help organisations: BeGambleAware, Gambling Therapy and GamCare. These are the only outbound links anywhere on the site that are not commercial: they carry no sponsored marking, they are set to nofollow, and they open on the organisations' own websites in a separate tab. This site receives nothing when a reader follows them. The eighteen-and-over restriction referred to throughout this build, including on the front page, applies to all gambling content here.

Understand what this page cannot do

Controls such as deposit caps, loss caps, reality checks, cooling-off periods or self-exclusion belong to an account held with an operator. This build has no account, no form and no server-side application behind it, so nothing published here can switch such a control on, check its status or enforce it. Nobody's age is verified on this site and no gambling takes place on it; any check of that kind happens only at the destination you're taken to. No advertising or behavioural profiling network runs on these pages, so nothing here is targeted at a reader based on risky behaviour. Everything a reader can actually do with money happens after leaving this site: each operator link redirects to a third party, and from that point its own rules, checks and account controls apply, not anything published here.
